PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION:

Bedford Primary School offers a variety of preschool opportunities. 

Preschool application intake will take place both in person and online. Below are the dates of in-person application opportunities throughout the county. Preschool applications will be accepted on the BCPS Preschool Website beginning February 23, 2026. PowerSchool Enrollment will open for 2025-26 preschool students on June 1, 2026. 

These programs receive funds from the local, state, and federal levels. Programs are contingent upon funding & program locations are suject to change. Eligibility to participate is based on state and federal guidelines. Enrollment begins with children who are most eligible based on the application process. 

 

Preschool application intake will be coordinated with Virginia Preschool Initiative, Head Start, and Mixed Delivery/Bedford YMCA. Families apply for preschool, and children are placed in the appropriate program based on eligibility and availability.

2026-2027 KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Kindergarten registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin on March 23, 2026, from 12:00 - 7:00 PM.  Families register at their assigned elementary school.  Any child who will reach their fifth birthday on or before September 30, 2026, may be registered.  Online registration is offered at the links below. Registering for school on time helps every child, teacher, and school to be ready when school begins. Please bring the required documents listed below: 

Birth Certificate
Proof of Residency (acceptable documentation includes a copy of a mortgage document, lease, or real estate tax statement.)
Current physical 
Immunization record

USE OF DIGITAL DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM

The VDOE released Health and Safety Guidelines in June regarding the appropriate use of digital devices in the classroom. The guidelines address three main components to support teaching and learning:
• Device use in the PK-12 classroom
• Screen time and necessity of breaks
• Ergonomics and posture

As a reminder from policy IAA – Transparency in Education, “Prior to the first day of school each school year, the following should be posted on the school division website in a prominent location and in a format that is easily accessible to the public:

  • the learning objectives developed in accordance with the Standards of Accreditation to be achieved at their child’s grade level, or, in high school, a copy of the syllabus for each of their child’s courses;

  • the Standards of Learning (SOLs) and curriculum framework applicable to the child’s grade or course requirements and the approximate date and potential impact of the child’s next SOL testing;

  • an annual notice to students in all grade levels of all requirements for Board of Education-approved diplomas; 

  • the School Board’s policies on promotion, retention, and remediation; and

  • a list of all approved textbooks by grade level.”
