ReadingRoots Information

Reading Roots is our First Grade Reading curriculum.  Students are assessed and placed into reading groups based on their reading ability.  Students receive 90-minutes of reading instruction by a qualified teacher.  The student may not necessarily be with their homeroom teacher or classmates during that 90-minute block of time.  A key component of Success For All is using cooperative learning groups.

There are 4 major components to the Reading Roots Curriculum:
1.  Fast Track Phonics
Students work on letter sounds, letter writing, segmenting and blending
2.  Shared Story
Students work with a partner and read an assigned story
3.  Star Story
Teacher reads aloud and work on comprehension and vocabulary skills
4.  Adventures in Writing
Students work on writing skills

Students are expected to read their shared story nightly and write words on the back of their bookmark.  Teams earn points based on homework being returned.
